      2.0 out of 5 stars Clay is too hard to soften to desireable pliability

      A disappointment. The clay was so hard it took over 10 minutes to soften each piece of clay into a ball pliable enough to roll the strips of clay needed to make the swirls. This is recommended for ages 8-14 but it took my husband using a large amount of force with a full-size kitchen rolling pin in to flatten the clay into the slab needed to make the lantern. The “rolling pin” provided is a joke.My guess is that the clay was old in the kit we received. It never became soft enough to easily complete the tasks. We did manage to make one less-than-satisfactory lantern but it wasn’t worth the effort to make the other one. The only thing my 8-year-old granddaughter could do was help soften the clay, roll a few of the "snakes" that become the swirls, and make the holes in the side of the lantern. She was happy enough but I had to do most of the work.

      So cheap. The 16 bricks of clay is about the size of two pieces of gum put together that should be a dollar store products besides in the photo is triple the size of what the actual product is. Don't waste your money

      My children enjoyed doing this clay lanterns craft! I like that everything is included, like a mat for the clay to go on, so that it doesn't go all over the place. My only complaint is that the clay that came with ours was dry and crumbly, so it took a lot of work to make it come together and swirl with the other colors. There is just enough clay for two lanterns. I wish that some of the colors had more in them, so you didn't have to use 8 different colors/shades for a lantern. I do like the metallic paint that comes with this. It's nice that the kit has everything one needs to make both lanterns. Overall, a hit with my kids!

      This clay lantern activity was well packaged and held our kids' attention (4 & 7) throughout the entire process (except maybe the baking part.) Definitely a good screen-free activity to do as a family. Instructions were clear and actually taught me how create neat marbling patterns. This kit only includes just enough to get the two lanterns out of.The metallic paints were a nice contrast to the playful colors of the clay.I like that in the end, unlike playdough creations which can be easily squished/destroyed, these will hold their shape once baked and should last. You could even use them as pen holders once their interest has waned.

      This makes a great gift for any child who likes making and creating things. This is well thought out kit that has everything needed to make at least two lanterns. Nice assortment of colors for the dough and fun gold and silver accent paint can make them sparkle even more. Good indoor activity for children and they had lots fun making lanterns that can then be used in their bedrooms. Not too messy but also very hands on, this is great idea and nice product.
