      Worked Out of the Box

I just received the unit today, and after unboxing I couldn't wait to try it out. I read almost all of the reviews here so had some healthy, low expectations for this product. It came double boxed, and while the exterior box was a little abused, the interior box was intact with no crushed corners or pierced sides. after removing the box, the Styrofoam padding was all intact as well so the device had no blemishes, scratches, or defects that I could see.Like I said, I read a lot of the reviews here so was prepared for little to no assistance from the manufacturer on how to use the cutter, and sure enough a single page with poorly translated English and a few wide shot picture was all I got. I immediately broke it down as much as I could, removing the pressing handle, the blade, paper guard, and blade splint. I will admit that I am somewhat mechanically inclined, so this wasn't an intimidating process but it really was easy to remove those parts and put it back to together. I will also point out the pressing handle is shipped inverted, so you will have to remove that and turn it around in order for it to work anyway. It came with two allen wrenches that are stored in the moveable paper guide, so that was helpful. After putting it all back together, I tried cutting some paper. I had a bunch of offprints ready to go, so I set the paper guide to 4 inches. I did see where some people had an issue with deflection on the guide, so I took a second to make sure the guide was lined up both at the top and bottom at 4 in, and then cranked on the locking screw until it wouldn't turn anymore. I applied quite a bit of pressure at the bottom of the guide, probably more than I would get from pushing paper up against it, and it held firmly. So my advice is to REALLY crank that holding screw so it doesn't move. I then cut the stack I had, which was roughly 100 sheets, and it had no issues, it cut cleanly and effortlessly. I took the paper out and then measured the first several sheets. all but one of them were exactly 4 in, and I believe that was because I hadn't jogged the paper completely to square. It was the third page in and the fourth and fifth pagers were fine.I only gave 4 stars overall because I only tested disassembly/reassembly and one stack of paper so far. I have several cutting projects that have been waiting for this guillotine, so I will work on these projects for the next several weeks and then update review if necessary.

Lots to Love, Room for Improvement

Love the size and the heavy duty nature of this cutter. Does a great job cutting, it's clean and precise except for the last couple sheets in the pile. If you press down and it is too hard, it pushes the bottom most pages into the cutter "tunnel" and causes them to crinkle. Since we never know how hard is hard enough, we have been somewhat disappointed with this "feature." We have discovered a workaround which I hate to say for a brand new item...but we measure and do everything we need to do and then move the entire stack a 1/4" away from the top guiderail. Obviously this opens us up to crooked cuts but we really needed the unit and the maintenance guy sent the boxes to the recycle. We are thinking of getting a plexiglass rod (square) and putting it up there to keep our items straight. Vendor...any ideas?

      No instructions.

This machine comes with only a short paragraph on how to use it, and whoever wrote it did not speak English, so it really doesn’t make sense. I found instructions on YouTube, and some good advice. Once you figure it out (it’s not as intuitive as I expected), it works as advertised, though I will take the advice given and do some tweaks so I don’t waste paper. I haven’t tried a large block of paper, so I will try to update after more use. I use 32 lb paper to make planners, so I don’t expect 500 sheets at a time, but I don’t need that many anyway. It’s heavy and awkward to move, but I expected that. Looks like a decent product.

      Arrived Damaged

The media could not be loaded.  First of all - I'm rating this 5 stars because I don't believe it is the fault of the paper cutter itself. It seems relatively sturdy and well built. And what parts of the paper it did cut - it cut nicely.I'm only posting this review so there's a record of the video of what it's doing so Bolo can see it because I'm returning it.Mine arrived heavily physically damaged. Bent. How do you bend a thick heavy piece of metal like this???Because of this it's not cutting paper all the way through. The top half cuts nice. The bottom half doesn't. The bottom half of the blade doesn't lower fully to the cutting bed. And if I were to push harder it just pushes the top half more firmly: ruining the cutting bed, dulling the blade and still not cutting the paper. I tried pushing very hard hoping it would level itself out - all that did was make it cut into its own plastic cutting bed guard block - ruining it.I don't feel good about rating this 1 star when it's clearly a damaged/defective unit. So, it's getting a 5 star to be fair. But be aware of the possibility of defects in how it cuts - see video.
