5.0 out of 5 stars Great for vanilla extract

These are very good. Presplit. When mixed with Vodka and sits, fantastic vanilla extract. Reusable, just add a few new beans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made extract and it smells great

First time making homemade extract. Didn’t know what to expect. These vanilla beans looked dry. I followed the instructions by cutting them into smaller pieces. I didn’t use the qty they suggested. I put 2 or 2.5 strings cut into pieces into 8oz liquid. Have been shaking the bottles daily and the extract smells great. I am excited. Might buy another bag to do some more extract. I bake often and I can also give as Christmas gift to some of my friends who love to bakeUpdate 5/2/2023:My very first batch that I made in March is doing great and smells really good and no more alcohol smell. They also all look much darker in the bottles. I bought another bag of the same kind vanilla and again made 6 more bottles of 8oz each. Now I continue to shake all 12 bottles daily. Will keep them for another 6-8 months and hoping to use them after that period.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should Have Bought More

A good buy. Wish I bought more and probably will. Easy to work with, extraction after just one day looks great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fuzzy Beans

So I decided to jump on the homemade vanilla extract bandwagon for the first time. I did the research and decided on these Madagascar Vanilla beans as well as the Tahitian beans. They arrived last week and as I knew I would not be able to start the extract process immediately, I followed the instructions and sealed them in 3 freezer zip lock bags and placed them on a shelf in my basement. Yesterday I prepped everything and sliced up the beans and carefully placed them into my jars. So far so good. The beans looked fine both outside and inside. I poured the hard alcohols (vodka, rum, and bourbon) into the jars and closed them up. Once they were all filled I gave them a shake and set them aside to start the second batch. My husband came over and looked at the jars and asked if the beans were supposed to be fuzzy. HUH??? Fuzzy??? So I took a look. Sure enough it looked like a fuzzy growth had sprung out of nowhere and were growing out of the beans. I shook the jars again and the fuzz started to detach and float all over. I took pictures and we both researched what this could be. Was it mold?? I don't know. All I know if that we could not find an answer as to what this was. Quite a few people have asked this question but no one seems to be able to provide an answer. It looks gross. Completely unappetizing. My Tahitian beans don't seem to have this problem but the Madagascar beans do. And its in all my jars. These were not cheap but it's also the alcohol that has been wasted. Very disappointed. I will be reaching out to the seller to hopefully find out what this is. Be cautious. Lots of great reviews but there are some bad experiences out there. I took a chance. It did not work in my favor.*** UPDATE***I originally rated this as 1 star. I have updated my rating to 3 stars. I contacted the seller directly and asked about the fuzzy beans. The response (which came before my original review was even posted) stated that the fuzz "...was not mold unless it was there from the beginning. That would have been evident from the surface of the beans. It is nothing more than proteins, waxes, etc. that are being pulled out." Other information was provided but this I found most important. I will not rate higher as I am annoyed that this happened and that I had to reach out to get more information. At least it appears that this is still OK to consume. It just doesn't look pretty.
