      Good strong knife

      I lost my favorite carving knife on a trip. I don’t know how that happens, but it did. I’ve been lost since then. My wife got the Beaver Bench knife (C2, right hand knife in picture). I was very appreciative, but you know how it is when someone buys you a knife. I did reshape the end of the blade have a little bit more of a point. I then sat down with my sharpening stone and wet dry sand paper to get an edge on it. The metal did great being cut and holding an edge. I liked it.I then found Beaver carving on FB. Beaver offered a free detail knife with the purchase of their new strop. It seemed like what I was looking for, plus who doesn’t always need a new strop. So I ordered the strop, sent the message and got the knife and polishing compound.I received the Detail knife (C8) (left hand knife in picture). I grabbed some wet dry sandpapers and kept the bevel just like it was. The blade is thin and straight. I then used my regular gray powder strop compound and old strop I had made. Then I put it on the new Beaver Strop with their M7 compound. This is a new type for me. I have never used a slick strop and “grease” compound. It really polished the blades beautifully. I’ve used both knives and carved 6 small santa type figures. The metal has held an edge wonderfully. I have only stropped it since sharpening and the edge is perfect.My only change would be a slighly thicker handle. but it is not uncomfortable at all. If you are just getting started, you can't go wrong with these knives. If you have been carving for a while, It's a great addition to your toolbox. I will be buying more knifes and supplies from Beaver soon.
