5.0 out of 5 stars How to

I am 75 years old. I have been doing this a long time. I have been reading a lot of reviews about double edge shavers and razor blades. Most are just D A posers who want to tell you how smart the are. They are not. They have surfed the web and come up with ways to impress you. The angles, the shave agression, and all that is B S. The point is ALL the butterfly safety razors out there whether it is made in China, or India is from an expired patent from Gillette. They are basically the same they may have a spits worth of difference between them. The difference is YOU. That's it. We all have different skin and hair. The non-butterfly razors fom Germeny or England are the same. The bottom line:You personally have to try them and make up your own mind. This BS about which is best is just that. BS. Whether to use a butterfly type is just a preference. Back in the 60s I had to borrow a non butterfly. I did not like it. I felt like I would lose some piece in the sink. My friend loved his. Just preference. My advise, order serveral of each kind and try them out and see what YOU like. Same with blades. When I first started to shave there was not much choice. There was Gillette blue blade or nothing. It was a real piece of dodo. Got dull about 1 to 3 days. There were no stainless blades then, Wilkerson was the first that came out. Thought it was the best thing since grits. But it can not compare to today's blades. The blades made in Japan or the USA are as good as any ever made. Try them both. See what you like. You have to use them serveral days in a row (same as the razor) to see how your face or skin adjusts to the new blade and razor.I read that some razors were a good starter razor. That is stupid BS. These things don't have training wheels on them. This is an investment that may last a lifetime, threat your decision carefully.Shave cream or soap: they are about the same with shave soap a little better. But you are going to have to get a good brush and a cup to use it properly. The reason this seems to give a better shave is the hot water involved used with the process. Old time barbers used hot towels and a straight razor shapened enough to split an atom. I use hot water and hot towels. I also use plain hair conditioner as a lubricant. Yes plain old hair conditioner and hot water. Now about cutting yourself. It's not about if but when. You are going to have to get a septic pen or bar. Get the bar. You will know why after you cut yourself. Don't try to be macho. Get an astrigent like witch hazel. Your face will think you. Then use a little after shave. Noitce I said a little AFTER shave. Not COLOGNE. The difference between the two is like the difference of toilet water and perfume for women. Talk to your mama or you girlfriend if you don't know. Women use perfume on the back of their hand or behind the lobe of their ear. It's applied by a glass stopper not a handful like a man does. Young men especially are prone to drench them self's like a New Orleans whore. Listen up. Give your neighbors a break in elevators and pod rooms. It stinks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Redesigned head??? Much more aggressive

I bought a Parker 66R about two years ago and absolutely loved it. Consistently great shave with almost any blade. My wife knocked it on the floor while cleaning my razor stand and it broke. Ordered this on June 2020 and it's not the same. This one is super aggressive. I have to be very careful around the tricky spots or I get nicked (even wild milder blades). I looked into contacting Parker if they redesigned it but their website instructs you to direct all questions to the retailer where you bought it so no help there.I still love the butterfly closeure and the handle is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy days are here again!

When I was 17 in 1964, I joined the Marine Corps. I was issued a Gillette safety razor and a can of Barbarsol at boot camp. It served me well for many years, but then in the early 70's, Gillette came out with the "Track Two" razor, and the DE razors soon disappeared from sight! Other brands came out and each one competed for the market. Instead of prices going down with the competition, they went up... much like printers and ink cartridges. Before the internet, it was near impossible to find a safety razor, much less the blades! I, like many other "purests" suffered through many years of using these crappy razors, then along came Bolo! I'm 69 years old now, and a little slower on figuring things out, but the idea finally came to me to look for good ole safety razors. Lo and behold! there were many to be found; though none by Gillette. I went through the descriptions and reviews of dozens before deciding on the "Parker 66R" It's hefty, has a long enough handle to feel comfortable, has the butterfly opening which is really convenient, and came with 5 blades. I also ordered a cake of shaving soap, a badger hair brush and bowl just like I used to have. I could hardly wait to try it out. After my shower, I filled the sink with hot water, took the brush and began to mix a nice lather. I brushed it on and oh my! what a great feeling! The razor glided smoothly over my old weathered face, and I couldn't believe how much I missed it. It was like finding an old friend again. I virtually savored the moment as shaving was now a real pleasure again. I was so impressed, I decided to mill an old piece of raw cherry wood into a shaving stand (see photos). The blades are ok, but I'll probably order a different brand when these wear out, which may be awhile, as I used to "sharpen" my blades to make them last much longer than they were intended. How you may ask, do I sharpen a double edge blade? Easy... Take a drinking glass (key word is GLASS not plastic), fill it half full of warm or hot water, take the blade and carefully slide it down the inside edge of the glass with your index finger until it is submerged, then rub it side to side about a dozen times, take it out, flip it over and do the same to the other side. You're good for another 10 to 12 shaves! Parker seems to know what us older guys like in a razor, as they make a number of different styles. I'm sure you won't go wrong with any of them, I'm really really happy again!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars You never forget your first.

Man did i choose right when i selected this razor. I am a first-time user of the safety razor. I have used the multi blade method for many years. This razor is extremely forgiving. I got one nick during my first shave and it was smooth sailing after that. The weight of the razor is just right and i just let it do its thing. The only reason I did not give five stars is because the razor blade sits uneven. You can achieve a closer shave with one side more than the other. This was true with the Sharp and Astra blades. I still really love this's razor. Thanks Parker...well done.My first review of this razor was the first week of December. So here is my Christmas Day update. My original observation still holds true. I will say the shave results are much better with the Astra blades than the Shark. I will try the Feathers later just to see if there is a difference.

      Great shave, great quality

Some reviewers said that this razor is aggressive? I didn’t find it aggressive, and as for blades, I use nothing but feather. I love the weight of it, but I have learned with this type of heavy razor, don’t push it, let the razor do the work. I just received it, had 3 days growth on my face, this razor went through it like butter! I had one tiny weeper on my chin, if ever I nick myself it’s always there. I highly recommend this razor, it was half the price of my Merkur, and it shaves just as good if not better.
